The Elipse™ balloon is the world's first gastric balloon that does not require surgery, endoscopy or anesthesia. In combination with nutritional monitoring, Elipse™ is a "starter" that will boost your weight loss and get you back on track when dieting and exercise are not enough.
Elipse™ Balloon Treatment
The Elipse™ ball is designed for people who are overweight or beginner obese with a body mass index (BMI) of 27 or greater.
It is a tool that fills a void. The slightly overweight respond well to conventional diets and the obese can be supported by bariatric surgery. But between the two, there was no satisfactory solution so far.
The main contraindications are:
- A history of bowel obstruction.
- Multiple cesareans (from 3 Caesareans).
- Previous surgical stomach procedure.
- Inflammatory and chronic bowel disease.
- Gastrointestinal bleeding (ulcer).
The Elipse™ Program Flow
The doctor conducts a thorough examination and examines your medical history to see if the Elipse™ balloon is right for you.
The Elipse™ program is based on three pillars: the balloon, nutritional monitoring and the connected scale.
The Elipse™ balloon
The Elipse™ balloon is a soft balloon placed by a doctor in the stomach in just 20 minutes.
The patient swallows a capsule inside which is the deflated balloon connected to a thin tube. You must be fasting for at least eight hours before setting up the Elipse™ balloon.
As soon as the X-ray confirms that the balloon is in the stomach, the doctor fills it with 550 milliliters of water.
The balloon stays in the stomach for about 4 months, after which the valve opens allowing the balloon to empty. Its ultra-thin membrane dissolves and is eliminated by natural process.
The Elipse™ balloon is a big boost to help lose weight, but it is not magic and a follow-up by a qualified dietician is essential to achieve your goal of weight loss.
The ball causes a satisfying feeling that allows you to eat smaller portions without feeling hungry. The food you eat stays in your stomach longer, so you do not have to eat between meals.
There is no food restriction. However, to maximize your weight loss, the dietician will make recommendations tailored to your body and your goals.
For a month after the disappearance of the balloon, the dietician helps you to consolidate your new eating habits that are essential to guarantee your weight loss long term.
The smart scale
You receive a wireless "smart" scale and you install the Allurion® application on your smartphone. The scale connects you to the dietician and allows them to follow your progress and offer you support and advice in real time.
The potential risks of sedng up the balloon
Most patients return to normal activity one or two days after the balloon is placed, but some may experience nausea, abdominal cramps and vomiting. These symptoms are, however, well controlled with medications prescribed by the doctor.
Most people lose between 20% and 50% of their overweight during the four months of the program, which averages between 13 and 15 kilograms. 80% of the weight loss is during the first 3 months.
