Nymphoplasty (or labioplasty) is an intimate surgery that improves the aesthetic defects of small and large vaginal lips.
Why: Improves the appearance of vaginal lips
When a woman wants to correct the shape and / or the size of the vaginal lips, she must resort to a nymphoplasty.
Vaginal lips may be too thick due to excess fat or skin. In practice, the demand mainly concerns small lips (nymphs) due to:
- An unsightly growth: The small lips that come out of the cleft of the vulva are visually disturbing because of their shape, colour or appearance.
- Asymmetric lips: The small lips are of unequal size.
Hypotrophy or atrophy of the lips
When the vaginal lips are too small (hypotrophy) or non-existent (atrophy), it is possible to inflate them to regain volume.
The motivations are, in order of importance on the aesthetic aspect, the inconvenience to get dressed, a discomfort while playing sports and a discomfort, even a pain, during sexual intercourse.
How the procedure of labioplasty works
The labioplasty surgery is performed under local anaesthesia without hospitalization and duration is between thirty to forty-five minutes.
The reduction of the small lips
The surgeon removes the superficial layer of the labial mucosa while retaining the initial shape of the small lips. Two techniques are possible:
When excess skin is spread over the entire length of the lip, the practitioner incises from top to bottom, then uses a buried suture technique to make the scar invisible. This technique allows for removal of a large quantity of excess lip.
When excess skin is located on a specific area, the surgeon removes a triangle of skin, either from the middle of the small lip, or from its back half. The scar is hidden in the folds between the small and the large lip.
The reduction of the big lips
The big lips can be too thick
- In case of excess fat: we do a small liposuction
- In case of excess of skin: excess skin is removed
Augumentation of small and big lips
When the vaginal lips are too small or nonexistent, labioplasty is performed through lipofilling with fat taken from the patient to restore volume.
Effects of labioplasty
The operation of nymphoplasty is not very painful. Absorbable threads disappear spontaneously after ten to fifteen days. Preferably wear skirt instead of pants during the first days to avoid discomfort while walking. The patient must observe carefully her personal hygiene in order to avoid problems of infection. Sexual activity can be resumed after about twenty days.
The result is immediately visible and will be permanent after three months, when the lips have already regained their flexibility. It is quite natural because the surgeon avoids over corrections and respects the anatomy of the patient. They are particularly careful to keep a protective edge on the small lips to protect the vaginal opening from possible infections.
